Crowd funding arrives in the Isle of Man

Crowd funding arrives in the Isle of ManA new service to help individuals or groups promote and manage a fundraising campaign online has been launched in the Isle of Man, the website operates a crowd funding model that has become extremely popular in the USA and is rapidly gaining a following in the UK, but what exactly is crowd funding?Nicole Bodell, founder of www.letscrowdit.com explained, “Crowd funding is essentially a way for people to raise funds for a project that is of a creative, community or cultural nature from likeminded people who support them with donations in exchange for small rewards. The campaigns are typically for things such as artistic projects, social projects, community events, club fundraisers and other projects of a non-commercial nature”.The idea first originated in the USA in 2009 and has rapidly become the first choice of budding artists, musicians, theatre groups, designers, independent film makers and inventors as a way to fund projects they are passionate about. Project sponsors can publish their campaigns on the web site and upload pictures and video clips to give potential backers a good understanding of what they will be supporting with their donations. Using lets crowd it they can get their campaigns out in front of a much wider audience and by linking their projects to their Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts, the word is spread much further through the power of the internet.Posting projects is free and with the ability to receive donations online by credit card or PayPal the project sponsor has a secure, convenient and transparent way to raise funds. Projects are listed on an “all or nothing” basis which gives security to both the project sponsor and the backers. If the project meets it funding goal by its deadline date the pre-approved donations are collected from the backers’ credit cards and, after the deduction of fees, is paid to the project sponsor. If the project fails to meet its goal by the deadline date the project expires all pre-approved donations are cancelled and no money is paid by anyone. This model ensures that project sponsors are realistic with their fundraising goals and that backer’s only end up making a donation to support a successful project. It’s been said that there is one great project in all of us, with the emergence and rapid growth of crowd funding there is an opportunity for anyone to make it happen.
